Late Elder Nnanna Agwu

Late Elder Nnanna Agwu was born on 15th October 1924 to the pioneer of Christianity, late Chief Agwu Onu Ikpa, and Mrs. Amu Agwu Onu (nee Ndukwu) in Amakwu Ukwa Nkporo in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.

Late Elder Nnanna Agwu embraced Christianity at the cradle and did not dare to join the “egbela cult”. He commenced his primary school in the year 1934 at Nkporo, and dropped out of Macgregor College, Afikpo in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, but resurfaced at Hope Waddle Institution, Calabar, Cross River State in 1939 to take the final year student examination, among which mathematics was one of his favorite subjects. Late Elder Nnanna capped his education with a Bachelor of Education in Technical Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1971. The late Messiah was confirmed as a full member of the Presbyterian Church in 1946. He was ordained ruling Elder of the Presbyterian Church of Nigena in October 1982. The then
Sunday School Teacher and choirmaster held so many appointments and elective positions in the Church and contributed much to what the Presbyterian Church is today in Nkporo, which are too numerous to mention
In the community, he was the founding father and Chairman of the Nkporo Literate Youth in 1952. He was a great activist against the evils and calamities that engulfed the then Nkporo Improvement Union.  A pioneer of the non-operational Nkporo central market at Nde Nko in 1955. A member of the Nkporo peace and Unity talk in 1982. His academic guru taught in some many schools across Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi State and retired at Amurie Technical School, Nkporo in 1984 after 35 years of service. Then, had a second teaching appointment at Presbyterian Seminary School, Ohafia, from where he died on 25th April 1998 in his house, peacefully. It is worth to note that this champion of education and passion for excellence human being, saw to the success of so many Nkporo students and Nkporo community development projects. Late Elder Nnanna Agwu was married to Late Elder /Hon/Da/ Ezinne Ikodiya Nnanna Agwu (1932-2023) in 1970. The marriage was blessed with five children.
