Biography of Ezeogo Sam Nnanna Lekwa Egbuta

The passage of EZEOGO LEKWA EGBUTA, known to many of his admirers as Chief Sam Nnanna is a big blow not only to Etitiama as a community but Nkporo City States as a whole. Ezeogo Lekwa was about the last man standing among the EGBEJIOGU I| AGE GRADE of Etitiama Nkporo.

This great man ruled over his Etitiama Community for a total of thirty three (33yrs) years from 1975-1998 and 2010 -2020. He loved the community under him and they loved him exceedingly in return. In the course of his life and during his reign, the community met so many challenges that the distinguished Ezeogo confronted with unparalleled wisdom and fortitude that saved the community from unnecessary expenditure, litigation, and sometimes even precious life. The royal institution as a whole within the Igbo society & other parts of Nigeria was subjected to unprecedented assault by a series of power-seeking military regimes and their civilian counterparts. The Igbo rejected the warrant Chieftancy unilaterally introduced by the British in 1923, and indeed against it. It was alien to the culture and traditions of the people and a direct contradiction to their democratic ways of life. But this same obnoxious policy was reintroduced by the military and their civilian counterpart in the guise of autonomous Chiefs and their "autonomous" communities.
The said autonomy was autonomy from the traditions of their communities, disdained contempt for the royal institution headed by the EZEOGOS, in place of un-questioning loyalty to the government by the new warrant chiefs, alias Autonomous chiefs. This, in effect, drew the royal institution into party politics, for under a civilian system, the loyalty to government also translates to loyalty to the party in power. EZEOGO LEKWA EGBUTA ruled over the Etitiama Community substantially under these trying conditions that not only challenged his character but also his capacity to look over his people under the conditions of diminished authority instigated by powers that be.
ACHIEVEMENTS OF EZEOGO LEKWA EGBUTA
It is more than a thousand years since Nkporo left Ibibio land and properly more than two thousand years after the dispersals at uruan and exit from Ikot Ngon and there about. Since then and through all these migrating routes the royal institution in Nkporo, of which the Ezeogoship in Etitiama is a worthy tributary has been systematically evolving for the children of Nkporo Ezeaja Iwoo were not labouring in vain without a ruler or rulers. Ezeogo Sam Egbuta was a proud inheritor of this noble lineage, and in modern times, only second to the great ERUA-NTA in terms of the developmental achievements made by the Etitiama Community under their leadership.
Under Ezeogo Lekwa Egbuta, the following achievements were made in Etitiama
1.    EDUCATION: EZEOGO LEKWA EGBUTA assisted in founding Etitiama Girls High School, alias Ezeaja Girls, to open wide the gates of education for the female population of the Nkporo people as a whole. It is interesting to note that even from neighbouring communities, parents were sending their wards to this great institution that helped to revolutionize female education in the community. In the course of time, as the need for education expanded, this Ezeaja Girls would change into Etitiama High School, and start to admit boys, which further expanded the radius of secondary education in Nkporo as a whole and inspired other communities to found secondary Schools.
2.    ELECTRICITY: It was under Ezeogo Lekwa Egbuta that the Etitiama Community, on their own and in coordination with various Age Grades, Women Association, Professional societies, etc., suffered and contributed to draw the national grid to Nkporo and by so doing joined other communities in having universal Electric lighting. By having Electricity small scale industries have arisen in Nkporo, and some of the youths who previously migrate 2.  to the cities have returned to exploit the benefits there from.

3. ROADS CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE:  For a longtime it has been a very serious issue in Nkporo & a challenge to Etitiama in particular. For long Nkporo has had about eleven access roads connecting her to the neighbouring communities of Abiriba, Akaeze, Edda, Item, Ohafia, and beyond. Keeping these roads motorable, especially in the rainy seasons, has been an abiding challenge to the Nkporo community, especially the Etitiama people. Under the leadership of Ezeogo Lekwa Egbuta, individual Age groups will rotate among themselves in the maintenance of the Etitiama roads and by so doing ensuring an all-season access to the community, evacuation of agricultural products, trade in other goods and services. Luckily the main Etitiama road been tarred, while works are on going on other link and internal roads in Nkporo.
4. POLITICAL ADVANCEMENT: EZEOGO LEKWA EGBUTA through his prayers and sometimes direct actions led to emergence of many Etitiama sons in government namely, both former speaker and now Deputy Governor in the person RT Hon Sir Ude Oko Chukwu (Ph.D); Deputy Local Government Chairman and Chairman, Elder Chief Dr. U. I. Eme, Barr Oko Uka Ogbubia (Deputy Chairman), a foremost legislator in the then Imo State House of Assembly Hon. Barr. U. O. Agwu and political Adviser to the state Government Dr. U. A. Ejionye.
5. DEVELOPMENT OF MARKET AND MOTOR PARKS: Under Ezeogo Lekwa Egbuta
Etitiama made enormous strides in the development of motor parks relocation and expansion of markets. By so doing the Ezeogo facilitated and improve the economy and purchasing power of his people as well as the income generating and taxation potentials of the government.
6. DEVELOPMENT OF AGE GRADES & WOMEN ORGANISATION: Through the urging & persistence of Ezeogo Lekwa Egbuta several age groups and women's organisation delivered on their desired mandates
The Ekwueme Age Grade built and handed over a modern primary schoo
The Obike Mba Age Grade built and handedover a modern motor park.
ill. The Chinedu, Ikenna, Ikeagwumba, Umunna and other age grades built and handed over the Ezeaja Girls School and Etitiama Community school
iv. The Igwebuike age grade built and handed over a Modern Market with accompanied number of stores; the UGWUJIMBA AGE GRADE built and handed over a multi-storey community Hall; the ONYIRIMBA AGE GRADE was the leading factor in securing Electricity light to Nkporo as well as the NEPA OFFICE that has been completed. The young star under the inspiration of the great Ezeogo has built a functioning Civic Centre, Roundabout and entertainment areas and some culverts for the Etitiama Nkporo and other peoples.
Ezeogo Lekwa Egbuta also contributed immensely on the growth and development of "ETITIAMA DAY" which takes place on 29th December of every year. During his reign he ensured that every sons and daughters of Etitiama Nkporo applied the dressing code of traditional regalia which served as the uniform for everybody. Permit me to say that Ezeogo as a leader by example was always in attendance throughout his reign. This great day attracted the attention of other villages and they were inspired to jump in.
SUMMARY
An average book cannot contain all the events & adherents of Ezeogo Lekwa Egbuta's life and reign. All that might be said for this occasion is that he touched the lives of his people in a positive way, and laid the foundations built upon the heritage of our illustrious ancestors, which should guide future generations in the further development and peaceful evolution of the Etitiama Community.
